Motivation

I need motivation. I need it now. Between having a broken toe (which is almost healed), a sick kid, and a busy schedule......I don't have anything left.
I decided to get my H1N1 flu shot since I am in the high risk group. The swime flu can be bad news for asthma sufferers so I did it. My arm is soooo sore! The Dr. told me it would be but WOW! I feel good, so no other side effects. Lets hope when the schedule winds down the mojo will ramp up again! Cross your fngers!!!!

Some great words

I wish I could say this is mine but alas, it is not. Tim Hatch posted the link and I stole it. Originally written (I think) by Chuckie V.

*Train for your worst possible day, not the one you hope to have
*Train to overcome self-doubt and to slay your inner demons
*Train for adversity, as adversity is omnipresent on Ironman day
*Train to want to be done
*Train to suffer
*Train for lock-up, as excessive eccentric loading is the name of the Ironman game
*Train to gut it out
*Train the gut
*Train to resist fatigue
*Train for pain

Pretty great summary.

Fall

So the weather people say its fall but lately its feeling closer to winter! With snow flurries reported in Sudbury in September.....I think its coming early this year. The worst part of it is, NO FALL RIDES! The temps don't seem to be increasing enough throughout the day to go out without freezing my butt off. The fall is such a beautiful time too. Right now its ok since my broken toe won't fit in a shoe anyways!!!

Ouch!!

So I broke my baby toe on my left foot! OUCH! To add insult to injury after it happened one of my dogs (the big one!) stepped on it. I knew it wasn't right since it was pointing to the side inside of standing tall. I had it xrayed, frozen, put back in place and xrayed again. Felt ok until the freezing wore off. It really hurts!!! And I can't walk on it. So classes are needing replacements and I am looking for our old crutches to try to get off walking on the inside of my foot. The bruising and swelling isn't helping either!

Its been awhile!

So, here is the recap......
Leslie and Nathan finished Ironman Kentucky with perfect racing weather and a first at the ironman distance for both of them! Being there really makes me miss the Ironman races. Kevin finished his second Ironman race in 5 weeks with an even better time than the first one! Shawn's race wasn't as great as he wanted but still finished!
Joanne had a great race also at Ironman Canada...her first also. Christian had an incredible time of 10:34!!!! WOW!
At the somewhat local 70.3 Muskoka, John Welsh beat his goal time despite cramps, mechanical problems and being pissed off at all the problems he was having. Carlos, Marie, Darcy, Scott, Calvin, Mike, Barb, Brent, Jamie, and Kirsten all did really well on this tough course. WAY TO GO EVERYBODY!! Time to rest.............................:)

The other side

This weekend and part of this week is a big deal for the other side of what I do. Besides coaching, I also do Personal Training and teach fitness classes. So this week/weekend is the BIG fitness conference. I learn new info about nutrition, choregraphy and new techniques for training and teaching. It is always fun and informative but I spend $$$ on everything new for training. I love gadgets and gizmos...just ask anyone I know! I think I have everything to make my athletes faster and stronger..I should be ok on the wallet this year.

Coaching "Off Season"

The best thing about being a triathlon coach, is the athletes. DUH! But besides that is when some of them realizes their potential and decides to try for the brass ring! Coaches normally have an 'off season' right after the bulk of the races are over. Or in this area... it is getting colder before the snow. This year is the exception....I have a few athletes that want to push the envelope and qualify for the big show! They will continue on through the fall season to race early in the spring. Instead of starting fresh in the New Year, like most do. They have seen their times drop and their performance improve. They feel good going hard and fast. It helps validate what I love to do......help others be better!

Early Morning Ride

Got on the road at 6:45am. Had a great social ride with Ted and managed to get Gary out. He has been off the bike for 2 years! Short and sweet today with 45k. Speeds were fast and laughs were plenty. Thanks guys!

Getting Older

So for a long time I knew that my knee wasn't going to last forever. When you have a partial prosthetic put in at 17, you know these things. At my medium -ish age I shouldn't be taking it "easy" and having 'bad days' with arthritis. The way I see it I should get credit for time put in and get a new knee sooner. That way I can do what I love......Ironman races! I only say this since I am having some sore knee days more and more lately. :(

Looking Forward

Life is at a stand still. August is always the month for me when I am uncertain what September will bring. My work schedule changes in the summer and then again for the school year. Its tough because I have some opportunities coming my way but can't commit until I see my work schedule. I also applied for a new job or two.... to be exact. I will fill you in when I find out...wish me luck!

Barrie Tri is over!

I must say that every year I am impressed. Not only in the athletes of all shapes and sizes but the volunteers! Especially this year....KTC had a big turnout to help with the race! Thanks sooooo much for all your help!
Awesome job to all CA athletes - Kevin and John - I love you guys! All other CA athletes did an insanely good job! Paul H shaved 5mins off his swim time!!!! WOW!
Even my past athletes showed me that they stuff have the stuff! I am ready to do all again next year!

Barrie Tri

So Sunday is the 5th year I will be the KOS coordinator for the Barrie Tri. Not an overly demanding job but it all happens fast. The timing has to be right...can't disappoint the kids.
This year I was interviewed by the local paper. Sound be exciting to see my name. Hopefully he will mention my coaching also!

Technology

I'm sure you've heard this before, but its hard keeping up. Between Facebook, Twitter and keeping a blog, I am finding it hard to come up with stuff to write about. I may have to live a more interesting life so I have something to report.

Cool picture

I posted this pic for my title page because it reminds me of how the pool can feel sometimes. Especially for those that are learning to swim faster, stronger and longer. I help a lot of athletes navigate this storm and find the blue skies that can come out with a little help.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! Its here you will find info on me and tri training. Plus the occasional rant!
Enjoy and comment anytime.
