Year of Change

This is the first time in the last 6 years that I havent had a handful of ironman hopefuls to train. What used to be a dream goal has ever been achieved or not quite there yet. However, I do have a dozen or so going for 70.3 this year and I am excited for them. The half ironman distance is great fun and easy to fit into a busy schedule. 2014 ironman canada is my next goal....I just need to get back in the pool :)

Why?

There are moments in time that make me ask why?
Why change training mid stream?
Why follow someone elses program?
Why do what you know is wrong because someone else is doing it?

When you are training for your goal, stick with it. Changing your training because your bored or your training buddy is doing something different is not a good idea.
Doing something that goes against science just because you want to "show off what you can do" is the worst idea ever!
Overtraining can derail your race plans and hurt your health.

2011 Season

Great group of new Team CA athletes this year! Lots of first time 70.3 athletes. Good to see the fever of the longer distances still alive!

As for me, I am training again this year. Some sprints and a Ironman distance swim/bike this year. Now lets hope that the tailbone stays intact and the knee will allow 5k training.....fingers crossed!!!

Goodbye 2010!

2010 brought many firsts for Team CA athletes. As always a few people tackled the Ironman distance for the first time. Congrats Genevieve, John W, Carlos and Jon D.
The 70.3 meet some newbies also. Way to Go to Doug A, Michelle R, Jamie A, and Brandi.

The biggest event of the year was Kevin going the 70.3 World Championships held for the last time in Clearwater, FL. Kevin's goal was Sub 5 and we worked very hard to earn his 4:58:53! What an amazing time! Your awesome Kevin!

So as we look forward to the race season of 2011, I wish all the old and new Team CA athletes the best season ever! Lets kick some ass!

2011 Plans

Some big changes coming for the new year! I know, I know, its still 2 months away but when faced with impending snow you tend to think about how best to spend your time indoors.
So some of the plans are top secret and will be inveiled when the time is right. However, my plans read like a open book. Tri's. Sadly, not Ironman distance which I had orignally planned. Another year of Graston on the knee and I should be good for 140.6!
Instead the local sprint circuit is in sight. I have some great races around here that I love and will enjoy doing. And with many many months of Crossfit behind me by then, I should be standing on the podium! That would be the best!

Barrie Tri

So Sunday saw a very wet Barrie Tri. It rained all day and a huge number of our registrants still raced! I'm not sure I would have ;)
Team CA did an awesome job with some athletes doing their first tri. Congrats to Lori, Scott, Wes, Andrew, Brent and my work buddies Michelle and Tanya!
Despite being wet all day and my Blackberry still not fully functioning...I had a great time! I always do.

See you next year!

Genevieve did her first Ironman in Lake Placid!! Watch for her race report on this blog. John rocked the Long course and did awesome...he is almost ready for Ironman Canada in 5 weeks. Margot did the Bala Falls race..its a tough one and she did an amazing job! Many of my first timers have been gearing up for the Barrie Tri which is now sold out!

Barrie Examiner

Two of my athletes are off to a 70.3 race in Hawaii....ahhh. Sounds great! I am expecting my boy Kevin to come home with a qualification for the 70.3 championships. But before they leave, we were interviewed by the local paper, the Barrie Examiner. Hopefully, yours truly will have a mention. No picture yet, that may come for the follow up article. So look for it!

Inspiration

"'I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in a maze of mediocrity. I won't give up shut up, let up, or slow up'

Paperwork!

Phew! The Barrie TC sanctioning paperwork is off the OAT. It took a long time to get it together but with the help of a few key people, we got our our routes done. In about 3 weeks we will be ready to kick butt against the other clubs in Ontario. We are growing strong in our membership numbers and I am really excited about what is to come.
Thanks Ted, Gary, Jamie and all the extra work from Theo! Good job!

Ready for 2010

So I've been home for awhile now and feel ready to tackle 2010. I have signed a couple new athletes and a few returning. Still waiting for a couple to finish their goals and race plan ideas. Should be a good year. Also, planning some Mega Training Days......usually hill training at Blue Mountain! Yuck!
As for my goals.......a new body. Done the old fashioned way, just so you know ;)
Maybe a few long races this year. Still planning...........
